This girl right here was my original inspiration for Kennah. If you know me personally, you know all about my characters being based off real people.

For those who don’t.. here’s a little background.

When I first started writing, I simply wanted to write a story that included all my best people. I wanted to write a fantasy world to do what I wanted, but also give tribute to my favorites.

Majority of the first book has scenes, snippets, character traits and quirks, and important lessons that ACTUALLY come from my own life and the people in it.

Even small moments like the hair clip that Kennah, her mom, and her grandmama all wear. My mom in real life always has a clip in her hair. And as I grew up, I started wearing the same ones.

Colorado was where my husband and I wanted to be stationed during his time in the military. We lost that chance close to moving, and we’ve been sad about it since. So I wanted to give us a place, even in a fantasy book, where we could live in Colorado.

The name Amanda, (which is the character based off me) came from the fact that my mom had called me Amanda her entire pregnancy. The day I was born she decided I looked nothing like an “Amanda” and named me Kimberly. 

Carter and Rex and inspired by my brother and sister. Daymen is inspired by my husband.  Kennah is inspired by my children. Tinsley and Seph are inspired by the two embryos that I lost during IVF. Zeus is inspired by my fur best friend. And so many more.

I hope that you guys ask questions about parts in the book - I would love to tell you what they mean to me and why I wove them into my story!
